On the cover of TV Guide’s October 24–30, 1959, issue, young television star Jay North appeared alongside an illustration of Dennis the Menace. The cover came just weeks after CBS premiered the sitcom on October 4, during its first month on the air.
Paired with Hank Ketcham’s comic-strip character, North personified Dennis Mitchell’s move from the newspaper funnies to America’s television screens. The pairing connected the familiar illustrated troublemaker with the young actor bringing him to life.
