Breaking academic boundaries on June 5, 1994, ten-year-old Michael Kearney walked across the stage at the University of South Alabama to become the youngest college graduate in human history. Earning a bachelor’s degree in anthropology at an age when most children are entering the fifth grade, his historic achievement stunned the global academic community.
Kearney’s brilliant mind showed extraordinary signs of acceleration from infancy, as he spoke his first words at just four months old and completed high school home-courses at age six. Though he was diagnosed with extreme hyperactivity, his parents chose to tailor his education to his rapid learning pace rather than forcing him into a standard school structure. His historic graduation proved that non-traditional paths can turn a neurodivergent gift into world-record success.
