A striking historical photograph captures baseball legend Babe Ruth knocked out cold on the ground after crashing into a solid concrete wall while attempting to catch a foul fly ball on July 5, 1924, in Washington, D.C. The terrifying impact left the legendary slugger completely unconscious on the field during the middle of an intense game against the Senators.
The unbelievable part of this stadium accident is that after laying unconscious on the grass for nearly five full minutes, Ruth refused to be taken out of the game. After trainers revived him with cold water, the Bambino insisted on staying in the lineup, completing the game and even hitting a crucial single later in the match despite suffering from a severe concussion and bruised ribs that doctors later claimed would have sidelined an ordinary athlete for weeks.
