On July 27, 1923, future Major League Baseball standout Ray Boone was born in San Diego, California. A proud direct descendant of American frontiersman Daniel Boone, Ray put his early baseball ambitions on hold during World War II, answering the call of duty by serving with the U.S. Navy at the San Diego Naval Training Center.
After the war, Boone returned to the diamond and quickly proved himself a formidable hitter, ultimately leading the American League in RBIs in 1955. His athletic legacy grew into one of baseball’s most remarkable family dynasties: his son Bob Boone, and his grandsons Aaron and Bret Boone, all became Major League players — making the Boone family the first three‑generation lineage in MLB history.
