On June 10, 1914, an international romance reached its elegant climax in Madrid, Spain, when Kermit Roosevelt—adventurer, naturalist, and son of former President Theodore Roosevelt—married Belle Wyatt Willard, daughter of the U.S. ambassador to Spain. The ceremony, held in a grand religious service attended by diplomats and Spanish dignitaries, drew enormous public attention as crowds filled the streets hoping to glimpse the famed Roosevelt family.
