It was the first place where Mary Todd and Abraham Lincoln lived together as a married couple. They had a boarding room inside this tavern.
Their first child, Robert Todd Lincoln, was born here.

US Marine sergeant John Basilone, born November 4, 1916 received the Medal of Honor for his heroism on Guadalcanal in 1942. While on war bond tours in the US Basilone repeatedly asked to be reassigned to a combat unit. His request was granted but sadly, he was killed in action on Iwo Jima in 1945.
