On March 10, 1783, the USS Alliance commanded by John Barry along with another American ship the USS Duc de Lauzun engaged and defeated British war ships in what was the last naval battle of the American Revolution.
The American ships were carrying Spanish coinage to be delivered to Washington’s Continental Army.

A group of women standing inside their collapsed home after the 1933 Long Beach, California earthquake occurred on March 10th of that year.
The Long Beach earthquake caused about 120 fatalities and widespread structural damage. Within a month stricter building codes were being drafted by a Joint Technical Committee on Earthquake Protection.
