August 21, 1961 marked the first attempted recording session of “Crazy” by Patsy Cline. Still recovering from a near‑fatal car accident, she arrived at the studio in a neck brace and on crutches.
Her fractured ribs made it impossible to reach the song’s soaring notes, forcing her to pause the session. Weeks later, healed enough to sing, she returned and delivered a flawless, single‑take performance that defined the Nashville Sound.
Her struggle became one of the defining vocal achievements of modern country music.
